Stuttgart S21 Protest
by admin on Sep.10, 2011, under Miscellaneous

Many of the trees are decorated [click to view larger]
This summer I visited the protest against the “Stuttgart 21″ project in the centre of Stuttgart, Germany. Stuttgart 21 is a highly controversial urban construction development that aims to sink the main train station in Stuttgart underground to make it a ‘through-station’. The controversy stems from the need to continually pump out the ground water present in the new site, leading to large pipes running overground from the centre of Stuttgart until at least the completion of the project in 2019. One of the main protest areas is a park adjacent to the train station which would see the removal of a large number of established trees, adversely affecting this and the surrounding natural environment.
The Firefighter’s Charity: Ladies Driving Challenge
by admin on Sep.03, 2011, under Events, Miscellaneous
Just back from holidays, I went along to support the Ladies Driving Challenge – a fun, family event designed to raise money for the Fire Fighter’s Charity. Open to all women (and on the day, friends and family), the challenge is to drive an array of weird and wacky vehicles, including emergency vehicles such as fire engines, fire trucks and police cars, articulated lorries, double decker buses, combine harvesters, tractors and a number of others that I wouldn’t even know the name of!

Memories of China…
by Gavin on Mar.25, 2011, under Family, Portraits
Last weekend I had the pleasure of taking photos of two lovely sisters as they opened their memory boxes – beautiful chests filled with photos, documents and other memorabilia from when they arrived in the UK from China. Here are a few photos of them exploring their past together.
Self-defence night at Ipswich Kuk Sool Won
by admin on Mar.15, 2011, under Kuk Sool Won
Ipswich Kuk Sool Won held a special self-defence night for students, friends and family last week ran by 4th Degree Black Belt (SBN) Kris French. Kris taught his 7-steps for practical self-defence, starting with awareness of the situation around you through to easy-to-apply self-defence techniques. The evening was a huge success, attended by approximately 40 people and hopefully be the first of a number of practical sessions!
If you are interested in trying Kuk Sool Won for free then there are many clubs throughout the country (see this list for schools). The photos here were taken at the Ipswich Kuk Sool Won club (see website for further details).

Working with a sequin dress
by admin on Feb.27, 2011, under Models, Portraits
Jia Yan popped into the studio last week – I’d been dying to try out some lighting after she’d told me about a sequin dress she had recently bought but not had the occassion to wear. First time in the studio? Yes, please! I rigged up additional lights at the sides to add more glitter and zing to that dress!
Experiences of a Croatian Wedding Part 1 of 3
by admin on Jan.30, 2011, under Weddings
Last summer I was invited to photograph a wedding in Croatia. It would be my very first international wedding commission and before I went, I knew very little of Croatia and its customs. Well, I was about to find out! The wedding day in Croatia is a little different from that of a traditional English wedding. Sure, the day had the usual ceremony followed by a reception, but there was quite a lot more, starting with the groom and his friends heading over to the bride and her friends, asking the man of the house (usually the father) to send out the bride which is when the fun begins…
